Discover Échale in Encinitas, where culinary artistry meets a fusion of flavors. Our journey began as an innovative pop-up led by renowned chef Sean Yontz and passionate Jon Rhinerson. Transitioning from a social media sensation to a permanent spot at 947 South Coast Highway, Échale is now a haven for food enthusiasts.

Our dinner-only menu showcases Chef Yontz’s mastery, blending Mexican, Mediterranean, and French influences. Signature dishes like chile-braised oxtail with homemade pappardelle, vibrant cochinita pibil, and mussels in chorizo-mezcal broth are just the beginning. Don’t miss our locally-sourced bluefin tuna, scallop aguachile, and the unforgettable strawberry shortcake churros.

The ambiance, designed by Ryder England, features sophisticated colors and a striking Japanese-inspired light fixture. Local artist Chris Bass’s artwork adds a unique San Diego touch.

Echale will only get better: they're passionate about their craft and have constructed a space and menu with intent. Here were the positives: -Atmosphere: Hip in an understated and comfortable way. -Wine list: Natural wines have ample real estate, and there are incredible finds. Also, if you’re a fan of fizz, this is where you can get your sampling. -Mussels: hardly space in their shells, chorizo and broth that demanded more bread. A+ -Strawberry churro: the crumble they created has appropriated the essence and flavor of strawberry to such a perfect degree that if it was on Twitter it’d be cancelled. Here were the gaps that would warrant less than 5 stars (I rounded up): -Between plating for gustation or style, at times style won out. The vegetables in the yellow mole could have been more part of the dish; the (incredible) sauce in the chicken tinga was too sparsely given in the kitchen. -Tamal had a bit of a prep stumble. High on flavor, touch dry. The execution of the other dishes points to this being a rare occurrence.

Soo amazing! Definitely stopping here every time we visit Encinitas. The vibe of the restaurant and the servers was awesome. Everything on the menu looked so good I wish we could have ordered one of every dish. Great wine list, we got 2 bottles of the skin contact wine both of which were fantastic. The steak and peppercorn sauce was cooked to perfection and the daily special spiny lobster and lump crab cake was to die for. All the appetizers we tried scallop crudo, bluefin tartar, oysters, and tamale were wonderful. Definitely don’t skip dessert either, the churro was fantastic.

Really unique and outstanding wine list. Food was definitely upscale in presentation and flavors, but delicious. The entree portions were very large. Churro dessert was elite.

BEST FOOD IN ENCINITAS ! The burger, the bolognese, and the steak are some of my favorites but I love everything. Incredible wine list and great place for a larger party

Honestly some of the most delicious and flavorful food in San Diego. The crudos and sashimis are some of the best around - light and sophisticated. And the main courses like the Chicken Tinga and Oxtail Bolognese were so good - super flavorful "comfort food" with a sophisticated twist. Beautiful restaurant as well with a "cool" vibe, which can be hard to find up in North Country. Service was great and the owner is very friendly and engaging. If you're in the Encinitas area, you need to go to this restaurant.
